Minecraft Forge is a program that allows users to install mods and set up servers if they already have the base Minecraft game.

Forge is one of those programs that's vitally important for the Minecraft experience, even if you don't realize it quite yet. If you like some of the most game-changing mods available for the base game, you'll need Forge. If you want to set up a server without having to deal with outside companies, you'll need Forge. If you still care about changing the way the game works, this is the program for you. It's not easy to install and its certainly not easy for anyone to use, but it's definitely a necessity.

One of the biggest issues with Forge is figuring out how long it's going to be relevant. As this review is written, private servers are still going strong in Minecraft. Unfortunately, though, there's always rumblings that this may be a thing of the past. The day private servers die off is the day that Forge becomes an obsolete program. Given the learning curve of Forge, this means that some people may want to skip it entirely.

Minecraft Forge is an interesting program that is still, for the moment, very relevant. No one really knows what the future of private servers will be, and Forge is one of the best providers of those servers available. If you're willing to spend some time reading FAQs and powering through the installation process, you should be able to install some great mods and get even more out of your Minecraft creations.
